The Ahmanson Gallery houses the museum’s permanent
collections, with an East Indian and Islamic collection that is among
the finest in the country. Western European painting and sculpture,
American painting and sculpture, Ancient Near Eastern, Oriental
and textile and costume collections are also notable. The Hammer
Gallery is used for temporary exhibitions, always of high caliber
and often organized by the museum itself. The Robert O. Anderson
Gallery for 20th Century Art is a 4-level, 75,000 square foot building
located in front of the museum complex. Jewelry, posters and art
books may be purchased in the museum shop. On weekends,
mimes and musicians perform in the outdoor plaza. Open Monday,
Tuesday and Thursday noon–8:00 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday
11:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.; open noon–9:00 p.m. Friday. The museum is
closed on Wednesday. Admission: adults $9.00; students with I.D.
and seniors $5.00 and children 17 and under are free. Parking is
$5.00. Free admission on the second Tuesday of each month.

If you are a fan of vintage TV programming, this museum is for
you! It was founded in 1975 to collect and preserve television and
radio programs and to make these programs available to the public.
The collection includes more than 100,000 programs chosen for
their artistic, cultural, and historical significance. You can watch
news, drama, public affairs programs, documentaries, the performing
arts, children’s programming, sports, and comedy shows. The
museum is set up with private viewing stations for single, couple
or group viewing, with headphones for everyone. The Museum is
open Wednesdays through Sundays from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. Free
admission.

NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY,

This museum features California and Southwest history galleries;
paleontology and mineral displays; re-creations of the habitats of
various mammals and dinosaur exhibits. Dinosaur exhibits include
a cast of the complete skeleton of a Mamenchisaurus, the largestnecked
dinosaur ever discovered, and one of the few and finest
Tyrannosaurus rex skulls on view anywhere, The gemstone display,
in the Gem and Mineral Hall, is wonderful. The Museum is home to
Megamouth, the world’s rarest shark. Children will enjoy the
upstairs Discovery Center, with its “Insect Zoo” and many hands-on
exhibits and activities. Open Monday–Friday 9:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.,
Saturday–Sunday 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Adults $9.00; students with
I.D. and seniors $6.50; children 5–12 $2.00. Free admission the first

An excellent collection of paintings, sculpture and prints from
the Renaissance to the mid-20th century. These include old master
paintings and drawings, works by Raphael, Goya, Rembrandt and
Reubens. Also impressionist works by Cezanne, Renoir, Toulouse-
Lautrec, Van Gogh and Picasso. Sculptures by Degas, Maillol, Moore
and Rodin are also on display. A Museum Book Shop sells an
excellent selection of art books, prints and cards. Open every day
except for Tuesday 12 p.m.–6 p.m.. Friday until 9:00. Adults $8.00,
students with I.D. are free; seniors $4.00; 18 and under is free.
