This renovated brick warehouse is located one block from Santa Monica’s fashionable Main Street. If you’re in a seafood mood this is the place. The dinner menu features a wide array of boneless, fresh fish filets and seafood cooked over mesquite charcoal grills. They also offer seafood pastas and salads, cioppino, mesquite broiled chicken and steaks. The oyster bar features a wide variety of freshly shucked oysters, steamed Manila clams and fresh farm raised mussels. Enjoy a cocktail and appetizers in their lounge or outdoor fire pit area. The atmosphere is casual, the food delicious. Open daily from 11:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m.

FLEMINGS PRIME STEAKHOUSE AND WINE BAR:

This richly dark, upscale steakhouse serves enormous steaks, all prime grade. They also offer veal chops with bearnaise, pork chops, lamb chops, one chicken dish, swordfish, salmon, crab legs and lobster tails. Desserts include fresh berry tart and a delicious apple pie. They have an excellent wine list with more than 100 choices by the glass. Moderate prices for a steakhouse. Open 5:00–10:00 p.m. Sunday–Thursday; Until 11 on Friday and Saturday.

FORD’S FILLING STATION:

(310) 202-1470 One of Culver City’s hottest restaurants, owned by Ben Ford, the son of actor Harrison Ford. This informal pub offers upscale American comfort food: fried Ipswich clams, Berkshire hog pork chops with braised cabbage, a pub burger of organic sirloin, Maytag blue cheese burgers, and shortribs with horseradish mashed potatoes. There’s also a selection of flatbreads with unusual toppings like lamb pesto, for snacking on with beers on the patio. Noisy and crowded but fun. Open for lunch: Monday–Friday, 11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.; for dinner: Monday–Saturday, 4:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m.

THE GALLEY: 2442 Main Street, Santa Monica.

Santa Monica’s oldest restaurant is a small, dimly-lit steak house decorated in a nautical motif with lots of twinkle lights. The juke box offers a wonderful selection of oldies. In addition to beef, there are several fresh fish and seafood selections. All entries come with salad, potato and bread. Full bar; they make a great Bloody Mary. Open seven days, 5:00 p.m. ’til 10:30 p.m. weekdays and 5:00–11:30 p.m. on weekends.

An upbeat Latin atmosphere serving fine Argentinean food. Start off with a basket of bread well spiced with parsley, garlic, and oil. Entrees include tender, marinated chicken and steaks grilled to order, served with curly fries or rice, and grilled vegetables. They also serve an excellent vegetable brochette with rice. Prices are reasonable for the large portioned entrees. Located on the beach where Sunset Boulevard meets the Pacific Ocean. Live Maine lobster, crab, clams, mussels, oysters, fresh fish. Freshly baked desserts. Special “all you can eat” nights Monday through Thursday. Covered patio and outdoor dining also available. A fun place for drinks and appetizers. Also open for breakfast and lunch. Open 8:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m. Sunday–Thursday; 8:00 a.m.–11:00 p.m. Friday-Saturday.

Small diner offering burgers, kosher-style hot dogs, fries, chili, apple pie and ultra-thick shakes. Open everyday except Thanksgiving, Christmas and Yom Kippur. Monday–Thursday 10 a.m–11 p.m.; Friday and Saturday until midnight; Sunday 11 a.m.–11 p.m.

Located in the Century City Shopping Center near the AMC theater complex. The lively yet relaxed atmosphere allows for privacy created by the overstuffed, leather booths. The offerings are in the traditional Texas-style. For an appetizer, try the spinach and artichoke dip. Entrees include roasted chicken with black beans, charbroiled swordfish, ribs, prime rib, and Texas-style chili. The portions are generous. Waits are long; no reservations taken. The soft tacos are delicious; also recommend their French fries and frozen margaritas. Free refills on soft drinks. Full bar.
