Resident Action Committee ByLaws

  1. PURPOSE
    To represent the residents in matters related to all aspects of residency education and provide an effective liaison between the residents and the GMEC.

  2. MEMBERSHIP
    • One resident representative (maximum of two) from each core residency program, to be elected by the program residents on an annual basis
    • Ex-officio members (non-voting) to include the Assistant Dean-GME, Director and staff-GME Office
    • Any member may designate a representative if unable to attend a meeting.
    • The membership will elect a Chair


  3. REGISTRATION
    Representatives who are on probation must resign their position. If a resident is unable or unwilling to serve out their term, the residency program will elect a new representative.

  4. GMEC REPRESENTATION
    The chair and one elected resident will serve as representatives to the Graduate Medical Education Committee.

  5. MEETINGS
    Regular meetings of the RAC shall be held at least quarterly at noon on Wednesday afternoons. Special meetings of the RAC may be called by the Chair.

  6. ATTENDANCE
    Arrangements will be made by the Program Director to relieve the resident representative of clinical responsibilities whenever possible, in order to attend regularly scheduled meetings.

  7. QUORUM
    A majority of the resident voting members shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business.

  8. VOTING
    At any meeting of the RAC, each member or designated representative from a core residency program shall have the right to vote in person. Each member has one vote.

  9. VOTE REQUIRED
    At any meeting of the RAC, all matters shall be determined by the vote of a majority of voting members present.
